Painting with Texture in Oils & Acrylics
Course delivery
This course will be delivered in a venue; social distancing will be adhered
to.
What is this course about?
This course is designed for learners of all levels, whether you are a
beginner or have some oil painting experience. On this course you will
have the opportunity to explore a range of oil and acrylic painting techniques.
As oil paints do take longer to dry than other mediums, we have added the
acrylic medium so you’re not just waiting for…well paint to dry!
You will
learn in a relaxed atmosphere, and at your own pace. You will have the
opportunity to select from a wide range of subject matter, either of your own
choice, or from a range offered by the tutor.
What will I learn?
• Use a range of oil and acrylic painting techniques
• Identify
and use types of oil paints, boards, pallett knives and
brushes
• Develop practical skills in basic drawing, sketching and
transferring images
• Use of colour, colour mixing, colour
theory
• Learners will also cover relevant aspects of history and
culture
More experienced learners will be encouraged to research and source their
own project materials, experiment with design and mediums, and to explore
techniques

Entry requirements:
No experience is necessary, although existing skills can be developed and
built upon.
This is a Community Learning Course with a focus on the teaching and learning
of new skills. Learners need to be able to demonstrate, independently, an
ability and willingness to participate in course activities

What qualification will I get?
This is a non-accredited community learning course.
What will this course lead to?
By the end of this course you will have acquired the skills to enable you to
create and produce your own art work, and you can continue improving your skills
by enrolling on further visual arts courses.
What materials will I
need?
Learners do not need to have many materials or much equipment
immediately.
The basic equipment needed is:
• various sizes of oil painting brushes/palette knife
• good
quality oil paints
• Acrylic paints and brushes
• drawing
pencils
• putty rubber
• palette
• A4 or A3
boards/canvas
Are there any extra costs?
The tutor will advise you where to purchase other drawing and painting tools
and equipment, and their costs, as and when you require them.
What can I do next?
Continue with the Oil Painting course next term, or enrol on Drawing and
Watercolour Painting, or other Visual Arts courses.
